Charlie & April - Arrived April 1, 2010

Charlie is a Paso Fino gelding and April is a pony mare.  Both had been roaming together on the loose for about two weeks until a caring neighbor was able to corral them and obtain permission to surrender them from their owners.  Both have been neglected in their routine care and are understandably skittish and leery of people.  Since coming into our care Charlie and April have shown tremendous improvements in their health and trust of people.

Tuff & Malachi - Arrived March 7, 2010

These two Thoroughbreds were abandoned by their owners 6 months ago.  Neighbors had been trying to provide for them, but were overwhelmed with their needs.   These two are in dire need of good groceries, hoof care, and dental care.

Tuff - 17 hands and 925 lbs on arrival.

Malachi - 16 hands and 850 lbs on arrival.

As you can see in the above picture, Malachi has a deformity possibly from an old injury.  We are awaiting our veterinarians evaluation on any possible limitations.

Mercadio - Arrived January 7, 2010

Mercadio is a 20 year old Paso Fino gelding who was brought to our attention by the flahorse.com community.  He was being advertised on Craigslist and he was in obvious need of immediate help.  With the generous support of members of flahorse.com we were able to pick up Mercadio and get him into a warm stall at our facility.  We blanketed him and he rode out some of the coldest nights of this years winter in warmth with plenty to eat.  Mercadio is very thin, was infested with parasites,  and in need of farrier and dental work.  His thick coat makes it hard to show just how thin he is.  But wherever you touch all you feel is bone.  His spirits are good though, he is alert, and happy to see us coming.

ADOPTED - Grace - Arrived October 4, 2009
Grace is a 20 something bay grade mare.  She was surrendered due to her owners in-ability to feed her.  However as you can see from the pics, they waited way too long to make that decision.  Grace has been started on a program to rid her of parasites and to help her with weight gain.  She will need her teeth floated as she has jagged and sharp teeth making it difficult for her to chew properly and to graze properly.  She also needs her coggins and vaccines brought current.  Grace is alert and very vocal when she sees us coming.  We are very hopefull that she will make a full recovery.

ADOPTED -Ranger - Arrived June 22, 2009
Hercules - renamed Ranger arrived not only thin, but also injured.  Ranger is a yearling grade colt who we found on Craigslist.  He had been rescued two months prior from a neglectful home.  He was very underweight with elf shoe hooves.  Rangers rescuers then surrendered him into our care as they were no longer able to keep him due to an upcoming move. We made arrangements to pick him up on Monday the 22nd.   While we were attempting to load him (we were allowing him to take his time and give to/move away from the pressure) a trainer on the premises assisting with the loading gave him a quick push which unfortunatly resulted in an accident that injured Rangers back leg. His back legs slid under the trailer and then upon coming up scrapped against the lip of the trailer causing a traumatic injury to his left rear leg and a small laceration to his right rear leg.  The injury is serious as it is large and deep exposing the tendons, ligaments, and bone.  This was of course an unfortunate accident, no one intended any harm to the colt.

Our veterinarian has prescribed antibiotics and we are cleaning, medicating, and wrapping the leg two to three times a day.  Susan from Saddle Up Tack shipped our needed supplies at a discount and without charging for shipping.  She also sent extra bandaging materials and vet wrap which will be put to good use.  Lisa Laplume, the farrier who cared for our rescue Rosie, picked up the tab on the items we ordered.  Thank you ladies for your generosity!

Here are pictures of Ranger, these were taken as soon as he stepped off the trailer.  The bandage in the pictures is not a representation of how his leg is being cared for.  That bandage was thrown on to cover the injury until we got home and could address it properly.

Day 20: The wound is doing excellent! The infection is no more, and Rangers weight is picking up nicely. He is getting quite spunky too!

9/28/09
Ranger is now 13 hands tall and 525 lbs!  His leg looks excellent, and he is doing very well!

Truley Magnificant - Arrived 7/17/08
Truley Magnificant is a 20 year old 17 hand Saddlebred mare.  Once used for Dressage and 3 Day Eventing, Truley is now recovering from an old founder.  She weighed only 820 lbs when she came into our care.  The pictures do not show just how thin this poor girl was.  Truley is under the care of our veterinarian, and a farrier who specializes in founder.  Her treatment and recovery will be long and costly, but definetly worthwhile.

May 26, 2009

The news is good, and I wanted to share some new pictures of Truley.  She continues to progress very well and has not had any lameness issues in quite sometime.  She is the first to meet you at the fence and is well aware that people are the givers of good scratches and treats! Truley will remain in the permanent care of her foster family.
