Promise Acres
Rescue * Rehab * Rehoming
Promise Acres To thee, my master, I offer my prayer. Feed me, water and care for me, Always be kind to me. Do not jerk the reins, and do not whip me when going uphill. Do not check me so that I cannot have free use of my head. Do not overload me, Keep me well shod. Examine my teeth when I do not eat; I may have an ulcerated tooth, Do not tie my head in an unnatural position, I cannot tell you when I am thirsty, Save me, by all means in your power I cannot tell you in words when I am sick, Give me all possible shelter from the hot sun, I try to carry you and your burden without a murmur, Without the power to choose my shoes or path, Remember that I must be ready at any moment And finally, OH MY MASTER, but do thou, My Master, take my life in the kindest ways, You will not consider me irreverent if I ask this AMEN
Providing Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Rehoming services for horses in need.
With the number of un-wanted horses ever increasing, we are trying to make a difference, one day, one person, and one horse at a time.
The Horse's Prayer
and, when the day's work is done, provide me with
shelter, a clean, dry bed and
a stall wide enough for me to lie down in comfort.
Your voice often means as much to me as the reins.
Pet me sometimes, that I may serve you the more
gladly and learn to love you.
Never strike, beat, or kick me
when I do not understand what you want,
but give me a chance to understand you.
Watch me, and if I fail to do your bidding,
see if something is not wrong with my harness or feet.
If you insist that I wear blinders,
so that I cannot see behind me as it was intended I should,
I pray you be careful that the blinders stand well out of my eyes.
or hitch me where water will drip on me.
and that, you know, is very painful.
or take away my best defense against flies and
mosquitoes by cutting off my tail.
so give me clean, cool water often.
from that fatal disease - ganders.
so watch me, that by signs you may know my condition.
and put a blanket on me, not when I am working,
but when I am standing in the cold.
Never put a frosty bit in my mouth;
first warm it by holding it a moment in your hands.
and wait patiently for you long hours of the day or night.
I sometimes fall on hard pavement which I have often prayer
might not be of wood but of
such a nature as to give me safe and sure footing.
to lose my life in your service.
when my useful strength is gone,
do not turn me out to starve or freeze,
or sell me to some cruel owner,
to be slowly tortured and starved to death;
and your God will reward you here and hereafter.
in the name of HIM who was born in a stable.
If this is not the norm, then why is it becoming so common?

RIP Speck - May you trot freely through heaven and know that we tried our very best. February 17, 2008.
Amir, a beautiful aged Arabian gelding. Purchased from his owners who had him in a sand lot with no access to food or water. His hooves were horribly cracked and broken, he was underweight and wormy, yet Amir's spirit was intact and he was quickly placed into a wonderful, loving home.

As sure as the sun sets, there will be more in need, more hungry, more sore, and we will try....

We believe that education is one of the best tools in preventing the mistreatment of animals wether intentional or not. Promise Acres provides school presentations which cover respect and responsibilty in a fun and informative format. Our goal is to give children the tools necessary to make responsible choices about the care and treatment of animals, which also carries over into various life encounters with friends and family.
